Goblin #5 "Cutwarp the Venemous" Ha, what a name!  But it's quite appropriate, given the pipe's stinger-like design that echoes some sort of rearing creature poised to strike with its poison bite.  This is another one stained in what I'm coming to think of as "Froud Green" (I'll be writing a blog entry on this shortly) - a mixture of greens and browns designed to echo the natural colors of the deep forest, created by stain application using the painting technique of scumbling brush.  It doesn't produce maximum grain "bling", but that isn't the point, and the grain is still quite visible on examination.   Also like some of the other goblins, Cutwarp isn't polished to a glossy shine, but is instead finished in a low sheen hand-rubbed oil finish designed to produce a mellower look more suited to its natural forest feel.   I took a bit of a gamble with this style of green finish, because it's so different from the usual finish goals (high contrast, high gloss, eye-grabbing bright colors like reds & oranges) but the more of these I make, and the more I look at them here in hand, the more I like them for their subtlety.  I've been pleased and happy that other people seem to think so too, and my customers seem to be snapping them up!  I'm always interested in feedback on these stains and looks, too.  The pipe has a horn stem, but this isn't apparent in the pics (Only in the very top photo can a little of the stem grain be seen).  It's very dark, and looks like ebonite at first glance, but a close examination will reveal delicate brown and charcoal-grey grain that proved totally impossible to photograph. I should mention that Cutwarp isn't as difficult to hold as he looks - That front claw actually curls very nicely across one's index finger, if the pipe is being held in the right hand.  And oddly, at 49.7 grams, Cutwarp is lighter than the sandblasts!
