Notes: "Thin is in"?  In the past, most of the bamboo-shank mortas have used thicker sections of bamboo, but I've wanted to make some with pencil-thin bamboo for a while now and finally got the chance on this pipe.  I think it goes very well with the morta block sizes.  This thin bamboo stock I have has been around forever - I got it from someone who'd had it for around ten years, and that was back in '99.  As a result, it's a bit yellower than new bamboo, which is more white.  The morta bowl is extremely black and dense - so much so that it is difficult to see the grain in the photos, though it does have a very nice ring grain pattern.  Note that the stem removes where the bamboo joins the bowl, not up at the bit - I did this for durability's sake, since thin bamboo can crack over time with a stem repeatedly inserted into it.
