first Bettafish of 2008. It differs from past years' Bettas in
that the shank section is cut from plateau briar rather than olivewood,
and the pipe and "tail" are symmetrical rather than asymmetrical
(Previous Bettas usually had the tail swishing one way or the other.
This one is a bit more of a stylized 'objet d'art'). It
offers a nice-sized bowl that's larger than the usual Classic-grade
morta, with an extremely intricate ring-grained sandblast (I count 33+
years of growth rings on this pipe from top to bottom!). The
briar 'tailfin' section showcases very nice bird's-eye across the
upturned flat section and flame grain everywhere else. A really
good start for the 'fish' of 2008, I think!
